Zip into Zingo’s

For a year I have been hearing about Zingo’s from my cousin who lives down the street from the restaurant. I finally got a chance to check it out. Zingo’s serves tasty Mediterranean food at a fair price.

Most dishes come with rice pilaf, which is not gluten-free, but the staff is great about letting you make a substitute. I switched mine out for hummus, which was very good. The food is not complicated, but rich in flavor.  I ordered the Chicken Tawook.  It came with veggies, chicken and my substituted hummus.  The chicken had a nice smokey flavor and the hummus was thick and flavorful.

Their menu has many salads and pita wraps in addition to the standard entrees. The staff told me that they are happy to substitute lettuce for the pita.  The staff seemed knowledgeable and said that the meet is safe with the exception of the gyro meat.  They described the gyro meat as being like a meatloaf, so it has wheat in it.

They also have many bottled beverages that are gluten-free.  Virgil’s is a brand with orange soda, cream soda and root beer all gluten free.

The one disappointment during my visit was that I was not able to try the gluten-free baked good they offer. Apparently they make them on Monday, and they tend to sell out. Next time I will have to plan my meal at Zingo’s for earlier in the week.

Zingo’s is located on Louisiana Street in downtown Perrysburg.

Their website is: http://eatzingos.com/

Wishing you great food and happy tummies,

K
