Gluten-Free Options at Toledo Area Restaurants
FEATURED RESTAURANT
Organic Bliss Gluten Free Bakery and Deli
Rating: Ultimate
Location: 3723 King Road, Sylvania, OH 43617
Website: http://www.organicblissmarket.com/
Our Take: This is one of my favorite places. I walked into the bakery about a week after I went gluten-free. I almost cried when I found out everything in their bakery case was gluten-free. It was a beautiful sight. Their gluten-free pies and cakes are fantastic and their California Turkey sandwich is one of my favorites.
What makes them really stand out are their specialty orders. My husband asked if they made red velvet cupcakes (one of my favorite things before my gluten-free days). They went to the bakery where I used to purchase the not gluten-free cupcakes, purchased some, and came up with a gluten free version that was even better than the original. That is customer service! They even started occasionally offering it as one of the cupcakes in their case.

Ultimate: Excellent food, many gluten-free menu options, kitchen and wait staff understand the allergy.
Good: Good selection of gluten-free menu items, good food, kitchen and wait staff willing to make accommodations.
Fair: Limited menu, kitchen staff can make accommodation. Staff not incredibly familiar with accommodations.
Ify: Despite claims to be gluten-free, restaurant staff struggles to understand what it means, and menu options are limited
Just No: I wouldn’t risk it. There has been repeated bad reactions to eating at the restaurant and I am done having it on my list.
*Remember that these ratings are based on how the restaurant is in regards to being Gluten-Free Friendly. Are the service staff knowledgeable? Is there a dedicated GF menu or is there a chef that can easily make substitutions or suggestions? At Disney, the chef often comes out to speak to the guest personally, even if it is a buffet. It could be an excellent restaurant in every way other than their GF options, but that is what we are rating on. If their only suggestion is that you can get a salad, it is not going to have a high rating.

bd’s Mongolian Grill
Rating: Good
Location: Franklin Park Mall – 5001 Monroe St., Toledo, OH 43623
Website: http://www.gomongo.com/
Kendra’s Old Take: This restaurant allows you to pick all of your own foods and sauces. Then, they grill it up for you. The sauces are all clearly labeled as to whether or not they are gluten-free. They clean the grill and use blockers to prevent cross contamination. However, if you would rather, they will cook it on the sterile grill in the back.

Kendra’s Old Take: While this is a chain restaurant, you would not know by the feel of it. This location perfected the chain’s gluten free options. Their Italian cuisine gluten-free menu is extensive and you do not feel like you are limited. The gluten free bread is delicious, and I could make an entire meal out of only this.

Rating:

Website: http://www.pfchangs.com/
Kendra’s Old Take: They are so used to serving gluten-free items, that the gluten-free menu is actually located on the back of their regular menu. The gluten free entrées even come on special plates, so you know that you are getting a specially prepared dish. You also get a separate set of gluten free sauces. Their chocolate dome flourless cake is fantastic!

Our Take: Their actual gluten free menu leaves something to be desired because they have a weekly menu. Their gluten-free menu is actually a menu from several months prior, with (gf) marked next to the menu items. However, what their menu lacks, it is more than made up for by their managers and kitchen staff. Simply ask about what you want to order, and the staff will tell you what will work and what will not, and they will make sure that you get a great gluten-free meal.

My Take: They now have buns, that make a burger worth while. They are not required to have dedicated fryers, so check before order the fries to see if the location does have dedicated fryers. This is a kid friendly restaurant, so a great place to take your child if they have allergies.
